A bird's eye view of Andorra

A bird's eye view of Andorra

Andorra is a paradise for mountain lovers and for those in search of unique landscapes, unforgettable scenes at any time of the year that will remain in your memory forever. If winter allows us to enjoy the snow-white mountains and valleys, summer is ideal for enjoying the fullness of nature while we take the opportunity to hike among green meadows and various lakes scattered throughout the country.

And why not be able to see the magnitude of its beauty from the air? The Principality of Andorra has several viewpoints, each with a particular charm linked to nature, which will allow you to get a bird's eye view of the country. Join us on this aerial journey!

5. Complete your experience!

1. The Tristaina solar viewpoint

Climbing to the summit of Peyreguils (2,701 metres high), near the border with France, the viewpoint is surrounded by the other peaks that make up the Tristaina cirque: Costa Rodona, Creussans, Cabanyó and Tristaina itself. It is a spherical suspended platform 25 metres in diameter, inaugurated in the summer of 2021, which offers impressive views of the valley and the Tristaina ponds.

One of the peculiarities of the Tristaina solar viewpoint is that, as its name suggests, it is a sundial. The 27-metre central pole that supports the dial is inclined at 42.55º, marking the time on the same circumference. Another curiosity, unique in the Pyrenees and which only occurs once a year: on 7 August, at 7:37 a.m., the sun is visible for 3 minutes through a large hole in the rocks of the Arcalís peak, which is why it is also known as "Montaña Solar" (Sun Mountain).

To go up, you can get there on foot from La Coma, although the best option is to take the Creussans chairlift and the Tristaina cable car (which we will discuss in more detail later). Once at the top, you will only have to walk for about 10 minutes with hardly any gradient, enjoying postcard-perfect scenery.

2. El Mirador Roc del Quer

Having the sensation of being suspended in the air and being embraced by the Pyrenees mountains. The Roc del Quer viewpoint, one of the most famous places in Canillo, is unbeatable for understanding the grandeur of the Principality of Andorra and for enjoying a panoramic view that you will never forget, with the valleys of Montaup and Valira d'Orient as the backdrop.

It is a 20-metre walkway, 8 metres of which are on dry land and the rest on a ledge that gives you the magical sensation of flying, like one of the thousands of birds that travel through the Pyrenees. Furthermore, a large part of the walkway itself is made of transparent glass, at an altitude of over 400 metres (important information if you suffer from vertigo!). At the end of the walkway you will see a man in a relaxed posture, enjoying the views and conveying that the height and the mountains give him strength and security. This is a sculpture by the artist Miguel Ángel González.

To get there, simply take the Ordino pass road (CS-240). The viewpoint is at kilometre 6.5; on your left you will find a large parking area from where you can walk just a few steps to reach the access area, dominated by the imposing presence of the Estructuras autogeneradoras, a sculptural ensemble by the Mexican artist Jorge Dubon. Although the walking route is short, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes.

3. The Tibetan Bridge in Canillo

The latest grand opening of the Principality of Andorra. This new infrastructure is the second longest Tibetan bridge in the world, at 603 metres long. Located in Canillo, at an altitude of 1,875 metres and with a maximum height of 158 metres, it is an experience not to be missed. Especially if the word vertigo is not part of your vocabulary.

The Tibetan Bridge in Canillo allows you to cross over the Vall del Riu, offering breathtaking views and landscapes that will leave you speechless, and with the sensation of levitating over the mountains.

Its location at the entrance to the Vall del Riu natural area prevents access by car: it is only accessible from Canillo with the official bus, which is included in the ticket price. When you reach Montaup, at the crossroads with the Armiana path, you only have to walk a short stretch of less than a kilometre to enjoy this new tourist attraction in the country. For the more sporty, there is also the option of walking up from the car park at the Mirador del Roc de Quer viewpoint, or walking the 3.8 km from Canillo.

4. Other viewpoints

Andorra's orography makes the country an excellent setting for enjoying its landscapes and panoramic views. Several viewpoints have been created for this purpose, each with its own particular charm linked to nature. These balconies have informative signs with all the information on the fauna and flora that surrounds them. Their excellent distribution throughout the country allows you to visit 14 of these viewpoints from your vehicle, such as the Camí de les Fonts, the Coll de Jou, the Vall d'Incles or the Roca de la Sabina.

However, there are some of them whose access is forbidden to vehicles, for which we recommend you to wear comfortable shoes suitable for the mountain, such as the aforementioned Tibetan Bridge and the Tristaina Solar Viewpoint, but also the Roc de Senders or the Circuit de les Fonts Viewpoint.
However, nature is not everything in Andorra. The Roof Top Van, our 360º panoramic terrace at the Golden Tulip Andorra Fènix Hotel 4*, offers unbeatable and unique views of the centre of Escaldes-Engordany. And, moreover, in a unique setting and with the possibility of enjoying good music and a great atmosphere.

Remember that, before climbing the Peyreguils peak, you have the option of various excursions for all levels: to the Tristaina lakes, with very little gradient; to the Tristaina peak, with a 7.5 km route with a gradient of 700 m, ideal for hikers; and hiking along the ski slopes, to enjoy nature.
And, with so much activity, especially if we are going to enjoy all the viewpoints, transport will be important. In this aspect, at Daguisa Hotels we do our part to help you and make it more economical. That's why, if you book directly on our website or in our hotels, we'll give you €0.07 per litre in a discount voucher for all Shell stations in Andorra, so you'll have more budget left to spend on enjoying the Fallas in Andorra!
